Return From Travel Blues

I hate this part right here…

I’m in a funk and I need to get out of it! Just came back from a 6 day vacay and I want to go on another one. I’m going through the cycle of why I’m working so much, why America gives so little vacation time to working people? Why?! Why?! Why?! This feeling isn’t new to me and I know that in a couple of weeks I’ll get back to the swing of things. This time I won’t wait for my next overseas trip, which isn’t until October, to feel inspired, and excited about life. I figured I’m not the only one that feels this way so here are a few ways to get over the “Return from Travel Blues”.

  1. Plan domestic weekend trips.

The US has a plethora of states to visits and so many hidden gems. I’m guilty of not appreciating what’s in my back yard and often times ignoring places that’s not international. But recently my mind has shifted and I’ve come to realize that their are people over seas who make that effort to visit epic American wonders so I should do the same. Whether it be a weekend in Miami at the beach or exploring the grand canyon a mini getaway is good for the soul.

  2. Day Trips

One thing I love to do when I’m abroad is going on day trips! So why not do that here at home. Being in dc means I’m lucky to have access to nearby states like Maryland, Virginia and Philadelphia. I could easily take a day trip to a vineyard, the city of brotherly love or even NYC without spending money on hotels.

  3. Discover the city I live in

I’ve lived in Washington D.C for two years now and I still haven’t discovered nor experienced everything it has to offer. Sometimes I feel like theres nothing to do but actually I don’t have a clue of whats going on. What do you do when this happen? Eventbrite & Airbnb experiences to the rescue! Eventbrite is great because they have different *events* (duh lol) into categories and they have a search function it’s fairly easy to find a couple things that’s going on based on your interest. Airbnb experiences is a favorite when planning out activites when I’m visiting another city so why not use it for the one i live in?! You can pay for an experience or use what you find to plan adventures on your own!

I hope these tips help you overcome the funk of coming back home after an amazing trip. I’m on a mission of loving where i’m at when I’m not on vacation. We deserve to enjoy the environment we live and work in. The world around us has so much to offer so as locals why aren’t we taking advantage of that? You may feel like this doesn’t apply to you because you may live in a small town where there’s not much going on or you may be in a big state like Texas where getting to the next poppin city takes a couple of hours and the next state is ridiculously far away. Regardless of the circumstance I guarantee you theres and experience that’s accessible and undiscovered near you. If you have any tips to getting over the return from travel blues share them below!
